Wow wow wow wow wow.
God is so amazing.
Here’s the latest and a few more details…
Last summer we looked at the land next to where Michael’s business/practice partner, Eric, and his wife are going to build their house (they are very good friends of ours) , but that idea fizzled when we found out that they were not going to be able to buy the woods behind the land, so it would basically be a big empty field with no trees. Plus it was in a flood plain, which would have been hugely expensive to engineer in order to build a house.
About two weeks ago, we found a .85 acre lot that is beautiful – lots and lots of trees and very hilly, which could be complicated and expensive to prepare for a house, but possible. We looked at a few others, but didn’t see anything that really fit what we were looking for. We were all set to move forward on the .85 acres. On Tuesday afternoon – the same day I read the passage in Experiencing God that I quoted on my previous blog – Eric called Michael and said that the owner of the woods had decided to sell the woods after all…and were we still interested?
The timing is anything but coincidental.
So we talked to Eric more and found out more information. We are looking at about 2 acres behind where they are building (instead of the land right next to them that we looked at last year). It is BEAUTIFUL! It’s completely wooded with a slope down to a small creek. I could totally see our kids running through the woods, riding their bikes, having adventures; us sitting on the back patio having cookouts and conversations overlooking all the trees…
Throughout last week, we really didn’t know what we were going to do and where God was leading, but last weekend we went to look at both pieces of land back-to-back and really felt a strong peace about the 2 acres behind the Packwoods. The one caveat is that none of us really trust the guy who is selling it, so we’re trying not to get too excited until the signed papers are in our hands. He could easily decide on a whim not to sell it or to accept another offer. We have made an unofficial offer and will draw up an official offer this weekend.
But we have learned this week that the greatest purpose in this whole ordeal is learning how to empty ourselves of what we want and listen to what God is saying that He wants. So even if the whole thing falls through, I think we both feel confident that it wouldn’t shake us because we have gained so much from Him in the past few weeks. That lesson is worth so much more than any ol’ piece of land.
So that’s where we stand right now! If you are a pray-er, please pray for a very important meeting on Thursday with the city regarding the driveway (that could be a deal-breaker), for us as we all prepare our official offer this weekend, and for the seller to work with integrity.
“Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever!” Ephesians 3:20-21
