I’ve been doing a Kay Arthur Precept study on Philippians this spring, and admittedly, it is kicking my butt. Most days, I grudgingly open my notebook, grit my teeth, and dive in. It’s like a college course, and as I stated yesterday, I have a negative attention span, so this study has been more than challenging.
But occasionally I do come across bits of wisdom and insight that I love. Kay is huge on knowing the Bible yourself, not just what others say about it, and thus much of her study involves looking up the original meanings of words.
So today I’m studying Philippians 3:8, which says
…I count all things to be loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them but rubbish in order that I may gain Christ…
Here’s the funny part: the word for rubbish is “skubalon,” which literally means POOP! So next time you are changing a diaper, look at that nasty thang and remember that all things outside of knowing Jesus look and smell like THAT!
