A Day for Mom

What a great day!

I did get to sleep in a little bit – I awoke to the rousing sound of the blaring security alarm at 8:00 (when someone forgot to turn it off before he opened the door to get the paper). I was spoiled and pampered all day by my loving husband and children. What a treat! After church, we came home for a photo shoot to show off my fabulous new dress (I’m actually a little embarrassed after all the hype, but I did promise a picture!), and the kids and Michael cleaned up the house after lunch – another huge treat! We spent much of the afternoon outside – it was such a gorgeous day. I loved just sitting back and watching them laugh and play, and I soaked in the blessing of how great they are and how amazing it is to be their mom. Selah.* Later, Michael took the kids to the neighborhood spray park while I stayed home and read my book and snoozed a bit on the couch.

My gifts from the kids: a book about Mom (from Meghan), a clothes-pin recipe holder with a “recipe” for “Chikin soop” (from Griffin), and a pair of comfy-cozy-ultrasoft pajamas from Jake’s Loft. WOO-HOO! There are few things I love more than my bed and a nice pair of pajamas. 🙂

Michael and the kids were going to fix dinner…but his joking comment was, “do you want your scrambled eggs with cheese or without cheese?” So we picked up Pei Wei instead. And (heads up, Alyssa!) Walgreens has Ben & Jerry’s on sale 2/$4.50, so Michael stocked up for me. I’m certainly going to need it this week after he leaves.

Happy Mother’s Day to all! Here’s one for all the moms. (If my husband had the gift of songwriting, he would write this – it’s actually another Steven Curtis Chapman song – but I am unspeakably thankful for a husband who understands and appreciates all I do as a mom!)

You’re up all night with a screaming baby
You run all day at the speed of life
And every day you feel a little bit less
Like the beautiful woman you are

So you fall in bed when you run out of hours
And you wonder if anything worth doing got done
Well maybe you just don’t know
Or maybe you’ve forgotten

That you, you are changing the world
One little heartbeat at a time
Making history with every touch and every smile
Oh you, you may not see it now
But I believe that time will tell
How you, you are changing the world
One little heartbeat at a time

With every “I know you can do it”
And every tear that you kiss away
So many things that seem to go unnoticed
They’re just like the drops of rain
Over time, they become a river…

Happy Mother’s Day! We are changing the world, fellow mommies, even when we feel like the worst moms in the world. I hope you were celebrated and loved today.

*”pause, and calmly think of that

  1. Sounds like a great Mother’s Day! Love the dress, very Ann Taylor. The kids are getting so big, they are so darling. Pei Wei sounds so good- maybe that will be my dinner.Suzanne
