Our favorite books

Have I mentioned how excited I am to be an aunt?

Since I (almost) forgot to go to Alana’s shower, I didn’t bring a gift, but I made a run to Target on Wednesday and took a sentimental stroll down the book aisle to find our favorite kid’s books to give to Baby Jackson.

*Cat in the Hat – you just can’t beat Dr. Seuss

*Goodnight Moon – I’ve read this so many times that I can still recite it. I do, in fact, to myself when I can’t fall asleep.

*Guess How Much I Love You – we just bought an antique-y looking board with the words “I love you to the moon and back” for the boys’ room. Nathan and I say that to each other regularly.

*If You Give A Mouse A Cookie – followed by “Pig/Pancake” and “Moose/Muffin.” My favorite spoof on this is “If You Give A Mom A Minute” (talking about how sidetracked we tend to get!)

*Pajama Time – we actually don’t own this particular board book, but we LOVE Sandra Boyton.

The only one I couldn’t find that I really, really love is Max Lucado’s “Just In Case You Ever Wonder.” ***WARNING: CRAFTY IDEA AHEAD*** I got an 8×8 scrapbook album, found pictures of Griffin at various ages, and made his own “special book” (as he calls it) – basically writing the book in the scrapbook with pictures of him as illustrations. He still loves to read it (especially when he’s in trouble).

So what are your favorites?

  1. We own all of those too except for Pajama Time – they are all of our favorites too!!! I would have to add Velveteen Rabbit and Green Eggs and Ham. I am sure there are many others – if I think of them I will post again!!:)

  2. Love your picks (and I might have to steal your crafty idea…LOVE it!!!!)Grace’s favs include: “The Foot Book” by Dr. Seuss and “The Going To Bed Book” by Sandra Boyton and “Alice the Fairy” by David Shannon.

  3. Those are all favorites of mine as well. And I love your crafty idea … that would be a neat gift for my twins.I also love anything by Kevin Henkes … Chrysanthemum, Lilly’s Purple Plastic Purse. And I love The Velveteen Rabbit. I’m a huge fan of kids’ books.

  4. Have you heard the song by Kim Hill called “Up to the Moon”? I first heard her perform this song at a MOPS convention and I don’t think there was a dry eye in the place! Get a box of tissues ready!
