The Simple Joy of a Nap

Wow. Did I really only post one blog entry since Christmas break started? What a month.

My New Year’s Resolutions are

1) make my bed every day
2) carve out and protect at least three hours a week for writing.

…so hopefully I’ll have more motivation and self-discipline with which to entertain you in 2009. I should up that amount to an hour a day, but I have to be realistic.

The kids went back to school today (oh, cursed alarm clock!), and of course it was cold and rainy. After dropping Nathan off, I came back home to eat my breakfast, and I had a decision to make.

Work out…or take a nap?

Oh, stop laughing at me. I don’t even have to tell you what I decided to do.

But let me tell you this, it was the BEST nap I’ve ever had. Or at least it ranked right up there with coming home from a colonoscopy before the drugs had worn off.

Anyway.

It was an hour and a half of complete, uninterrupted silence. My house was cold, but my bed was so warm!

Bed wins every time.

Sleep trumps everything.

Ev-er-ee-thing. Every time.

I felt so much better when I woke up. And to top off my day, when I went to Costco, what did I find next to the frozen orange juice but the reusable shopping bags I have waited MONTHS for! I had serious shopping bag envy when we loaded up Gretchen’s bags on the way to Kelley’s Island last summer, and when I got home, Costco had rotated them out of their regular stock.

Sidenote here: that is the one thing that irritates me about Costco. I find a product I love, but I can only buy it for a few months before it goes away. That, and they stopped carrying Light Ranch dressing.

So I grabbed a stack of bags, and my happy day was complete.

It’s gonna be a great year.

  1. You go girl! I took a nap today too! Weaning myself off of Ambien means a lot of late nights and a lot of missed sleep since mom’s of toddlers don’t get to sleep in…sigh. Naps are glorious! Funny that we fight them so much when we are young! hahaha

  2. Seriously – you crack me up!! No worries, I was feeling “very athletic” today, so I worked out for both of us! And, a little something extra to make your day end happy, too (although, the kids have since gotten home from school, there was homework, chores, dinner… the happiness may have worn off by now, it sure did at my house!), I clipped my Costco Frappuccino coupon out, just for you!!! 🙂

  3. Look at you – you don’t have high expectatations … you’re completely satisfied with a nap and some green bags! :)You’re so right … when you have an empty house, you should always take advantage of it and have a nap. You may find me at your house someday … just let me sleep.

  4. Too funny Jennifer – I can totally relate – instead of using my MDO day to run errands, clean, etc…I came home and slept from 9:30 – 12:30!!! I got up, ate some lunch and started rounding up kids! It was so nice to have a lazy day. Glad you posted this – I was feeling kind of guilty…d
